Children Services of the Washington County Free Library provides materials and information for children ages infant through age twelve and their parents or adult caregivers. We offer a variety of events and programs for children. You'll find many of our programs and events listed below, and we offer additional special programs throughout the year. Please refer to the Kids Events calendar for days and times, or contact us at 301-739-3250 x250 or wcflchildren@washcolibrary.org.

  • Infant Storytime (ages 6-18 mos.): (Pre-registration required) Wednesdays at 10:15 AM & 11:15 AM
  • Toddler Time (ages 18-36 mos.): (Pre-registration required) Mondays at 10:15 AM & 11:15 AM
  • Preschool Story Time (ages 3-5 yrs.): (No registration required) Every Friday at 11:30 AM
  • Stories by Starlight (all ages): (No registration required) Every Thursday at 6:30 PM
  • Homeschool Bookclub (ages 10-13): (No registration required) 3rd Wednesday of the month at 2:00 PM
  • LEGOs @ the Library (all ages): (No registration required) 3rd Friday of the month at 3:30 PM
  • Children's Coding Club (ages 8-12 yrs.): (Pre-registration required) 2017-18 Sessions are Nov., Dec., Feb. & March.

The Children's Department at the Alice Virginia and David W. Fletcher Branch offers monthly STEM themed programs during the school year. STEM is held on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM. These programs are for 8 to 12 year olds. Registration is requested, not required.

    • To schedule a visit for a librarian to come to your school or to bring a class to the library for a tour, please, contact the Children's Department at 301-739-3250 x250 or wcflchildren@washcolibrary.org
    • Tours, School Visits, etc. must be scheduled at least one month in advance
  • CLASS Partnership with Washington County Public Schools

The Children’s Department at the Alice Virginia and David W. Fletcher Branch offers a picture book science workshop on the second Saturday of each month where children ages 5 through 9 can explore science concepts through fun and interesting activities. Registration is required as space is limited.

The Children’s Department at the Alice Virginia and David W. Fletcher Branch offers a free preschool science program based on the acclaimed series PEEP in the Big Wide World for children ages 3 – 5 and their caregivers. Registration is required as space is limited.
