Participants will learn the basic parts of Microsoft Windows XP including My Computer, My Documents, Control Panel. He will speak on his experiences in old Hollywood and what it was like to work with cult film phenomenon Ed Wood, as well as to sign memorabilia. Candice Mowbray in Concert: A Noteworthy Sundays @ Your Library Event

Adult Services Barbara Ingram School for the Arts Black Box Theatre  Enjoy the rich sounds of classical guitarist Candice Mowbray as she opens the 2010-11 Noteworthy Sundays @ Your Library Series.
Due to the Central Library renovation and construction project all concerts will be held in the Black Box Theatre at the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts located at 7 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD. The Black Box Theatre is located on the lower floor. Please enter the school through the Potomac Street door and either take the stairs or the elevator to the lower floor.

Our adult Book Share group meets the third Thursday of every month (except July & August) to share their current books. Occasionally, we read a book that has been suggested (The Big Read, One Maryland One Book, etc.),
but we are also always free to bring in any other book to share.
This month, please bring in a current favorite to share.

John Brown’s Raid, presented by Local Author, Bob O’Connor

Adult Services Branch: Smithsburg Community Room Bob O’Connor, author of several Civil War novels, will speak on John Brown’s raid on Harper’s Ferry. Mr. O’Connor is the author of The Perfect Steel Trap: Harpers Ferry 1859, a historical novel surrounding the John Brown raid, trial and execution in Harpers Ferry and Charlestown, Virginia in 1859. The novel was a Best Book Award Finalist, Historical Fiction in 2006. Books will be available for purchase. Seating is limited, so please call 301-824-7722 to sign up.
The Story of Tolson's Chapel in Sharpsburg, MD

Adult Services Branch: Sharpsburg Edie Wallace, an historian with the cultural resources consulting firm of Paula S. Reed & Associates in Hagerstown will give a presentation on the history of Tolson's Chapel.
The chapel will be open to visitors on Saturday, September 18, 2010 during the Sharpsburg Heritage Festival.

Adult Services Branch: Sharpsburg In conjunction with the Sharpsburg Heritage Festival Committee, the Sharpsburg Library will celebrate the art of writing by hosting several local authors: Marilyn Blank, Mark Brugh, Tom Clemens, Vernell & Tim Doyle, Melissa Foster, Dody Gruen, Ben Hammaker, and Sam Varney. The authors will be available to chat with the public and sign copies of their books. Books will be available for purchase.

Adult Services Washington County Arts Council  Local musicians and educators Jennie Avila and Stephen Wright have collaborated to produce a series of programs based on themes in the Picturing America Collection; a Collection of noteworthy, high-quality images that offer a retrospective look at American history and culture. The images chosen for this collection encourage a better understanding of America’s diverse people and places and connect them to our nation’s travails and triumphs. All programs are free and open to the public.
The first in the series will be held at the Washington County Arts Council located at 14 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, MD on Sunday, Sept.19 at 3:00 pm. The topic for this program is the Civil War and will feature Jennie Avila’s original Civil War music. Please call 301-739-3250 ext 136 to reserve a seat.
