| Description: | The Washington County Free Library is inviting all writers and poets to submit an entry to the 2010 Writers and Poets contest. The library will be accepting poems and short stories from now until the end of March. Poems and stories will be judged in five age divisions: Grades 2-3, 4-5, 6-8, 9-12, and adult. Entrants may submit up to 2 poems and 1 short story for consideration. Poems may not exceed two typed pages. The library asks that short story entries be double spaced and not exceed five thousand words. Contest entrants must be residents of Washington County or hold a valid Washington County Free Library card. The short stories and poems may be on any topic and in any style. There will be two winners selected in each category for each age division. Winners will receive a prize bag, publication in the 2010 Washington County Authors Anthology, and recognition at the Spring Award Banquet to be held in late April. All entries must be postmarked by March 31st 2010. Entries may either be delivered to a library outlet (branch or bookmobile) or submitted by mail to: Writers and Poets Contest Washington County Free Library 100 South Potomac Street Hagerstown, Maryland 21740 All works must include author's name, address, phone number, and age division on the submission.
