Programs
Children Services of the Washington County Free Library provides materials and information for children ages infant through age thirteen and their parents or adult caregivers. We offer a variety of events and programs for children. You'll find many of our programs and events listed below, and we offer additional special programs throughout the year. Please refer to the Kids Events calendar for days and times, or contact us at 301-739-3250 x250 or wcflchildren@washcolibrary.org.
Regular Programs at Alice Virginia and David W. Fletcher Branch
  • Infant Storytime (ages 6-18 mos.): (Pre-registration required) Wednesdays at 10 AM & 11 AM
  • Toddler Time (ages 18-36 mos.): (Pre-registration required) Mondays at 10 AM & 11 AM
  • Preschool Story Time (ages 3-5 yrs.): Every Friday at 11:30 AM
  • Stories by Starlight: (all ages) Every Thursday at 6:30 PM
  • LEGO Challenge: (ages 6-12 yrs.) 3rd Friday of the month @ 3:30 PM
  • Minecraft Mondays: (ages 6-12 yrs.) Mondays at 4 PM & 5 PM
  • Children's Coding Club: (ages 8-12 yrs.) 2016-17 Sessions are Oct., Nov., Jan., Feb., Apr., and May
  • Tinkering with Technology: (ages 8-12 yrs.) 2016-17 Sessions are September 14th, December 14th, and March 15th.
STEM Programing 1st Wednesday of the month at 6:30 PM

The Children's Department at the Alice Virginia and David W. Fletcher Branch offers monthly STEM themed programs during the school year. STEM is held on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM. These programs are for 8 to 12 year olds. No registration is required to attend.

Other Happenings
Homeschool Happenings

The Children’s Department at the Alice Virginia and David W. Fletcher Branch host a series of free programs for homeschoolers entitled "Homeschool Happenings." These are held on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 2:00 pm. These programs are for 6 to 12 year olds. No registration is required.

Kids Discover Science

The Children’s Department at the Alice Virginia and David W. Fletcher Branch offers a picture book science workshop on the second Saturday of each month where children ages 5 through 9 can explore science concepts through fun and interesting activities. Registration is required as space is limited.

A PEEP into Science

The Children’s Department at the Alice Virginia and David W. Fletcher Branch offers a free preschool science program based on the acclaimed series PEEP in the Big Wide World for children ages 3 – 5 and their caregivers. Registration is required as space is limited.
