Adult Services Department

The Reference/Adult Services Department of the Washington County Free Library provides materials and information services for the citizens of Washington County Maryland and beyond through traditional and non-traditional methods. Our primary goal is to meet the information needs of our customers in an accurate, efficient, and courteous manner. Questions are accepted in person, by telephone, letter and email.

Special Services

AskUsNow!: 24/7 Live Reference Service
This is a 24/7 live online interactive service. It uses the expertise of librarians to provide people with answers to questions, research guidance, and help navigating the Internet. You will be able to communicate with a librarian in one of 26 public, academic, or special libraries around Maryland or elsewhere in the United States.

Computer Classes
Classes in computer basics, Windows basics, Microsoft Word, Internet and Email are offered on a monthly basis from September through May. Classes are FREE and open to the public. Registration for each class begins two weeks prior. Please see our Schedule (please make this a link where we will post the schedule) for dates and times. All classes take place in the Computer Lab in the Central Library at Hagerstown.

Marina
This is a free, statewide interlibrary loan system for libraries in Maryland. All you need is your library card. The requested materials will be delivered to the Washington County Free Library branch that you select.

Genealogy
Reference assistance is available to people researching family history.

BookShare
BookShare is a unique community-oriented book discussion program in which readers from across Washington County share and discuss their favorite books. Each month, BookShare publishes a newsletter and a list of new hardcover fiction and nonfiction titles.

Programming
Special programs are offered on a regular basis including author visits, musical programs, self-help seminars, etc. Please see the library calendar on the home page for more information.
