“Catch
the Reading Bug” this summer @ the Library Sign up for
the 2008 Summer Reading Club begins June 1st at Central
and all branches, and the Club will officially kick off
with a party from 10 am to 2 pm on Friday, June 13th at
the Central Library in Hagerstown. Each branch will also
host a kickoff party; for dates and times contact your
local branch. Additional Club programs throughout the
summer include a partnership program with the county 4-H
Youth Development entitled “Literature in the Garden,”
monthly afternoon movies, midpoint celebrations at each
branch library, and other bug-related events and storytimes.
Club participants can earn up to four prizes throughout the summer by reading books, attending library programs, responding to weekly web questions, and giving book reviews (downloadable form?). The Club is open to children ages birth to 10 and runs until August 31st. All Club participants who finish the Club by Friday, August 22nd will receive tickets to that evening’s Library Night at the Hagerstown Suns baseball game.

"Literature in the Garden" is a Junior Master Gardener
program being presented through a partnership by the Washington
County 4-H and Washington County Free Library in connection
with the 2008 Summer Reading Club "Catch the Reading Bug."
A free program, "Literature in the Garden" will be presented
as weekly sessions from June through August. Each weekly
hour-long session will be held at the downtown Library
and will include stories and hands-on activities for young
scientists. Pre-registration is required for each week,
and the program is open to children between the ages 6
and 11. Participants can earn points on their "Catch the
Reading Bug" gameboard for each week they attend. At the
end of the summer, a Junior Master Gardener Certificate
will be presented to each participant who attends all
8 weekly sessions. For a schedule and to pre-register,
