Groundbreaking @ Hancock

Hancock Library Groundbreaking event

On Tuesday, September 26, 2017 we officially broke ground on the new library coming to Hancock, Maryland.  Director Mary Baykan, in an interview with Herald-Mail Media said that "this day is about 3 years in the making, maybe closer to 4".  Director Baykan said that the groundbreaking on this project was "a culmination of a lot of hard work between the community, the library board, the county and the state.  Communities across this country use and value their libraries more than ever before and to be able bring Hancock a resource like this is a great honor, a great responsibility and we look forward a year from now for cutting the ribbons and opening the door, particularly to the children of Hancock."

John Schnebly, president of the Washington County Free Library board said that "this is a great day for Hancock".  He describes libraries as "houses of truth" that are a vitally important resource in an age of widespread but often incorrect information.
