Information Services (Librarian I / Library Associate I)

This professional position assures that all patrons (emphasis on services and programming for adults) are involved in a wide range of library activities and participates in outreach both within the Library and out in the community. Assists in developing services that respond to community needs and interests as outlined in WCFL’s strategic plan. Supervision is received by the Head of Information Services. Full-time; 37.5 hours per week (varied workdays and hours within the WCFL operating schedule, nights and weekends included); full benefits. Salary ranges: $47,000-$49,000 for Librarian I and $40,000–$42,500 Library Associate I. Qualifications & Requirements: Education & Work Experience Requirement for Librarian I (preferred): • Master of Library Science degree (ALA accredited program); will consider candidates who will obtain the MLS within one year of hire. Tuition assistance may be available for eligible candidates. • Minimum one year of customer service work experience working directly with the public in retail, education, community or public relations, or any high traffic customer service setting. • Professional Public Librarian certification from the Maryland State Department of Education or ability to obtain this certification within six months of hire. Education & Work Experience Requirement for Library Associate • Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university. • Minimum six months recent (within last five years) library work experience preferred. • Minimum 2 years of customer service work experience working directly with the public in retail, education, community or public relations, or any high traffic customer service setting • Library Associate certification from the Maryland State Department of Education or ability to obtain this certification within 2 years after hire, plus willingness and ability to attend training sessions as applicable.
