South Mountain Copper Mines

The South Mountain has been the home for sporadic deposits of pure metallic copper, native copper for eons. This lecture will present the geologic forces that created these deposits. We will also discuss their discovery during the colonial era and their episodic attempts at mining them. Finally, we will take a photographic tour of several old mines. Presented by Dr. Steven Hatleberg.
