McCauley Lecture September 2022

Black background with golf filigree border and text in white script

Come commemorate the 160th Anniversary of the Battle of Antietam with author Steve Cowie as he discusses the unexpected and devastating losses of Sharpsburg, the epicenter of that deadly day. When Hell Came to Sharpsburg investigates how the battle and its armies wreaked emotional, physical, and financial havoc on the people of Sharpsburg. Cowie explores the savage struggle and its gory aftermath, explaining how soldiers stripped the community of resources and spread diseases. This is a topic rarely discussed, so come join us as Cowie walks us through the horrendous effect that the battle had on the local civilians.

Registration for this event through our online calendar here is encouraged, but not required.

The lecture will also be livestreamed (and posted afterwards) on the Library's YouTube channel at this link: Washington County Free Library- YouTube.
