Smithsburg Library History October 22

Photo of stone library building with wood trellis porch and program title in typewriter font against green bands at top and bottom of photo

The Smithsburg Library began 101 years ago in 1921 when a women's reading club took action to buy a building at auction for a town library.  The result made national headlines.  This lecture traces the library's beginnings, and the history of library clubs in Smithsburg, which go back before the Civil War using materials in the collection of the Smithsburg Historical Society.  Presented by Jefferson Boyer, president of the Smithsburg Historical Society at the Smithsburg Branch Library on October 4 at 7 PM.
