Collection Development/ILL and Staff Development Coordinator

POSITION: Library Associate II, Grade 7, Full -Time Collection Development/ILL and Staff Development

LOCATION: Hagerstown, Maryland at the offices of the Western Maryland Regional Library (WMRL), located at the Central Library of the Washington County Free Library (WCFL)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Comprehensive knowledge of library operations normally acquired through two years of progressively increasing responsibility and work experience in a public, academic, or special library preferred. Within two years of appointment, incumbent is required to complete a minimum of 90 hours of in-service training by attending the Maryland State Library Associate Training Institute (LATI).

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS: Under the direct supervision of the Head of Collection Development/Interlibrary Loan (ILL) for the WMRL, performs essential library associate functions in support of collection development and maintenance, ILL, and all aspects of collection acquisitions, which includes ordering, creating invoices, receiving materials, mending, and weeding.

Creates purchase orders for materials, utilizes the integrated library system (ILS) acquisition software, receives and creates invoices upon receipt of new materials, assists with processing, updating, and troubleshooting OCLC ILL requests. Serves on committees. Broad knowledge of public library principles, procedures, materials.

Assists with collection development reports, helps with distribution of deposit materials, and searches for missing materials.

Under the direct supervision of the WMRL Director performs staff development duties including planning, coordinating, and evaluating staff development programs and instruction. Conducts annual region-wide training needs

assessment, maintains official record of continuing education credits, manages small- and large-scale projects and manages budgets and grants.

This position requires self-motivation, flexibility, and the ability to problem-solve and multi-task. Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing, by telephone, email, and online. Practices internal and external customer service skills. High level of computer and Internet literacy, including a working knowledge of Microsoft 365. Competent at working independently and as a member of a team. Regular job attendance and punctuality. Must be able to physically move throughout the building and use various devices, including but not limited to telephones, computer workstations and peripherals, printers, and photocopiers. Performs a variety of duties as assigned.

Previous experience using the Polaris Library Systems ILS and/or OCLC FirstSearch is preferred.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Monday – Friday schedule. Must be able to travel throughout Allegany, Garrett, and Washington counties, and may be asked to travel to meetings, events, and conferences held throughout Maryland. Some travel may require overnights. Must hold a valid driver’s license in good standing.

SALARY: $22.74 per hour. Benefits include paid vacation, paid holidays, sick and personal leave, health insurance, and participation in the State Retirement and Pension System of Maryland.
