Job Description
The Western Maryland Regional Library (WMRL) seeks an analytical and technically skilled Integrated Library System (ILS) Administrator to support the Western Maryland ILS Consortium and its member libraries. This position is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and enhancement of the consortium's ILS, including troubleshooting, software updates, training, reporting, and data visualization. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, experience working with library technologies and data systems, the ability to assess and improve library services, and a collaborative approach to building effective working relationships across the region. Project management experience and the ability to lead initiatives that support operational efficiency and informed decision-making are essential.
About WMRL
The Western Maryland Regional Library operates as a subsidiary of the Washington County Free Library. WMRL provides services and resources directly to the public libraries of Allegany, Garrett, and Washington counties. WMRL is not a public service library but instead works with the staff in the three western counties of Maryland to help them continue to provide stellar service to their customers.
Location: Based at the Fletcher Branch of the Washington County Free Library in Hagerstown, MD, part of the tri-state area where Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania meet; may require travel to other Western Maryland Regional Library consortium libraries and branches.
Hours: Full-time; 40 hours per week; schedule may vary.
Salary Range: $58,843.20 to $64,792.00
Essential Functions
- Administer and maintain the Integrated Library System (ILS) to support efficient staff operations and an effective customer experience
- Lead the consortium ILS Task Force in developing, coordinating, and improving system-wide policies, procedures, and services
- Develop reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using SQL, Microsoft SQL, and Tableau to support operational and strategic decision-making
- Provide technical support to staff and customers by troubleshooting system issues, resolving problems, and serving as a liaison with ILS vendors and support providers
- Perform quality assurance, maintenance, and ongoing management of the ILS database
- Design and deliver training and documentation on the ILS and data visualization tools.
Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of relevant ILS software
- Comprehensive knowledge of professional library operations including knowledge of MARC format for bibliographic records
- Knowledge of relational databases
- Experience managing an ILS for a consortium preferred
- Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server, and data visualization software preferred
- Ability to assess library services, design, and implement new methods and improvements to existing library services
- Adept at establishing good working relationships with staff across the region
- Ability to assess everyday problems and reach solutions
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to create effective solutions to complex technical problems
- Ability to plan and manage projects as leader of ad hoc groups
- Must be able to travel throughout Allegany, Garrett, and Washington counties, as well as travel to meetings, events, and conferences held throughout Maryland
- Two years of public library experience preferred, experience working with MS SQL and visualization software preferred
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an American Library Association accredited school
- Must be able to secure a Maryland Professional Public Library Certificate within 120 days of employment
- Must become a member of the Maryland Library Association
